NAS OS 4.1.x - Sdrive and Remote Access Transition

A new remote access service has been released with NAS OS 4.1. This new service is called Seagate Access and implements a new version of Sdrive (2.4.x) as a remote access client for Windows and Mac. This article provides information on Seagate Access and the new Sdrive.

What do I need to do after updating to NAS OS 4.1 to use Sdrive again?

  1. Uninstall the current Sdrive client from your Windows or Mac computer.

  2. Download and install the new Sdrive client (2.4.x) for Windows or Mac.

  3. Launch Sdrive and create a Seagate Access account.

    Note:  If you already own a Seagate Personal Cloud and have created a Seagate Access account for it, you can use that same account here.

    After creating an account, Sdrive will send a confirmation email to the address you used. Copy the code and paste it into Sdrive to confirm and finish creating your account.  


  4. Link your Seagate Access account to your existing local NAS OS 4.1 account:

  • Sign in to NAS OS 4.1
  • Go to Device Manager
  • Open the Users menu on the left
  • Find your Login in the list and click the orb in the “Seagate Access” column


  • Sign in to your Seagate Access account



Once your Seagate Access account is linked to your NAS OS 4.1 login, sign in to the Sdrive client with your Seagate Access credentials and ENJOY!


Is my current Sdrive account (created with Sdrive 1.x) compatible with this new version of Sdrive (2.4.x)?

NAS OS 4.1 is only compatible with Sdrive 2.4.x, it does not support previous versions of Sdrive (1.x). As a result, it is necessary to create a Seagate Access account and reassociate your NAS devices running NAS OS 4.1.  Note:  If you already own a Seagate Personal Cloud and have created a Seagate Access account for it, you can use that same account here.


Does the Sdrive mobile app work with the new Seagate Access service and NAS OS 4.1?

No. The Sdrive mobile app is no longer available on the app stores; however it will still work with NAS OS 4.0 if it’s still installed on one of your mobile devices.

All-new Sdrive mobile apps for iOS and Android are coming soon! 

In the meantime, the Seagate MyNAS service and compatible Seagate MyNAS mobile apps for iOS and Android can be used instead. To set up MyNAS, please see the MyNAS chapter in the NAS OS 4 user manual.


Will my data still be on the old Sdrive?

Seagate never stores your data. Your data is only stored on your device.


Which operating systems support the new Sdrive?

  • Windows: 7 (32/64 bit) – 8 (32/64 bit) – 8.1 (32/64 bit)

  • Mac: OSX 10.8 - 10.9 - 10.10


Which NAS devices are compatible with Seagate Access and the new Sdrive (2.4.x)?

Seagate Access and Sdrive 2.4.x are compatible with Seagate and LaCie NAS devices running NAS OS 4.1.x.


What if I’m not ready to update to NAS OS 4.1?

The Sdrive 1.x will remain available until December 2015. We recommend creating a Seagate Access account as soon as possible to use Sdrive 2.4.x with NAS OS 4.1.
