2big, 5big and d2 Network - Identifying problems based on the LEDs

Using Dashboard and LEDs to identify problems with the 2big Network 2, 5big Network and d2 Network (Version 1) devices.

Applicable devices:

  • 2big Network
  • 5big Network
  • d2 Network

The Dashboard can be a useful tool in determining errors and their solutions with your NAS device. To access the dashboard, usa the LaCie Network Assistant. Right click on its icon in the taskbar or finder and selection "Configuration" and then select the disk you wish to access. Alternatively, open an internet browser of your choice (Firefox, Chrome, IE) and enter the IP address of your NAS in the address bar.

Front LED is blinking

If you see this happening, it indicates that either the device is booting up or a backup job is in progress. You can access the dashboard and go to the ''backup' tab to view the current progress of the backup job.

Front LED is blinking red

This indicates that the device is at a critical temperature level and must be shut down. If you have the device connected to a UPS, it might also indicate that the power supply has failed and the unit is running on UPS power.

Front LED is solid red

This means that either the device is shutting down from a heat level or the power has been cut and the UPS is powering the device off.

Front LED is blinking blue and the back LEDs are alternating red and blue

This indicates that the device RAID has recently been damaged and is currently re-syncing. This can result from replacing or removing a disk from the unit. You can view the 'RAID' tab in the dashboard to see which disk has failed.

Front LED is blinking red and one or more of the back LEDs are solid red

Disks with the solid red indicator on the back have failed and must be replaced. If your disk is not in a redundant RAID then all data is lost but if you have one or less red LED and a redundant RAID (1, 3, 5) then the data is still available and will be restored when the disk is replaced. The dashboard management page will be able to show you what RAID you're using and which disk has failed in order to replace it. If none have failed and instead show "new" status; this indicates that the devices were pulled from the unit while it was running and replaced and do not necessarily indicate a failed device.

Front LED is blinking red but no back LEDs have turned red

This is a temperature warning. The device is too hot and must be shut down or cooled as soon as possible. The dashboard will also send an email to the admin account informing on the situation.

Front LED is solid red and some of the back LEDs are solid red

The RAID has failed and data is not available. The failed disks must be replaced and the raid rebuilt. You can view the RAID tab in the dashboard to see which disks have failed, if none have failed and instead show "new" status; this indicates that the devices were pulled from the unit while it was running and replaced and do not necessarily indicate a failed device.
