How to create more then one partition in Windows XP
IMPORTANT NOTE: Following the procedure below will ERASE ALL DATA on the drive. Prior to following these directions, verify important data is stored securely on a different storage device.
Begin by clicking Start, then Run.
Type the command:
diskmgmt.msc

Click OK.
The Disk Management program will open. If a window called the "Initialize and Convert Wizard" appears, click cancel.
The top frame lists partition summaries for connected drives. The bottom frame shows how the disks are physically related to these partitions. We are interested primarily in the bottom frame. We are using a 500 GB hard drive as an example:

Next, space must be allocated to hold files. Computers call these "Partitions." Right-click the area marked "Unallocated", and choose to make a "New Partition."
The first screen will show a size. Which for this example is 479638. To create two partitions choose half of the total.

The drive letter may be assigned or automatically given by the computer. The next step will setup for formatting the hard drive. The option for perform quick format will speed up the process, but this will mean the unit can't use Disk Check for errors. The Normal format will provide this function at the cost of time to finish formatting.

The next step will finalize the unit for formatting:

At this point when Finish is clicked, any data on the unit will be lost. The next image will show the unit formatting leaving another Unallocated section of the drive.

Once the first partition finishes formatting the second partition is available to be formatted as well. When completed the disk status should report healthy as indicated below:
