Find a device in OS 9, 10.0 - 10.2
At the most basic level, a device will appear in Apple System Profiler. To find a drive using this tool, click the Apple logo in the upper left corner, then choose "About This Mac." Click "More Info" in the box that appears.

In the Devices and Volumes tab of the System Profiler program, all devices detected by Mac OS appear in the categories based on how they are connected. In this example, a LaCie DATA BANK is connected to USB Bus 1. This shows the drive as it should if working properly.
Were the drive connected FireWire, it would appear in a similar way in the FireWire section.
