Using the LaCie Device Updater for Windows
Summary:
Using the LaCie Device Updater for Windows.
From time to time, updates are released for our hard disk and DVD lines of products. These updates are designed to fix specific problems, and do not add new features or capabilities. If a LaCie drive is exhibiting odd behavior, a firmware update may be appropriate.
The LaCie Device Updater program manages all updates on both hard disks, and DVD drives. It will identify the model LaCie drive connected, and install the appropriate update.
Follow the procedure below to update the firmware on a LaCie device.
NOTE:The procedure below can potentially cause data loss on the device. Data loss from firmware updates is rare, but still possible. Ensure all important data is backed up in a different location.

Install the LaCie Device Updater. Once installed, the program can be found in Start-->Programs-->LaCie Tools-->Device Updater.
When opened, click the radio button appropriate for the device that will be updated.

Follow the on-screen directions and connect the LaCie device. The program will attempt to identify what has been connected. This can take several minutes.

If the device has an update available, the program will attempt to upload it. If no updates are found, shortly after this screen the system will advise of this fact.

If the update is successful, this screen will appear. Disconnect the drive to complete the process.
NOTE: There are two error messages that can appear during this process. "Unable to identify chip" indicates there are no updates available. "Unable to open chip" indicates there is an update, but the software can not install it. If there are no other problems with the drive, either error messages can be safely ignored.
