Frequently Asked Questions

How can I update my LaCie USB or Firewire Bridge firmware with Silverlining?

The firmware update will only work on Macs with native ports, like an iMac, Blue & White G3, G4, and PowerBook 1999/2000 models. You must use Silverlining Pro 6.3 or higher to be able to update the bridge firmware. We recommend updating to the latest version of Silverlining Pro.
  • Go into Extensions Manager, select an OS Base set, duplicate it, rename it and turn on the following: Silverlining Pro , LaCie FireWire Support and LaCie USB Support.
  • Be sure that any other 3rd party driver (like Toast USB or Firewire Support) is disabled or the LaCie drivers and Silverlining Pro will not recognize a LaCie device properly.
  • Restart your Mac and launch Silverlining Pro from the Control Panel. Power on the drive and connect the cable. Silverlining will scan the bus and see the device under the External bus. Click on the icon of the device to highlight it. Go up to the Special menu and select Update USB or Firewire Firmware.
  • A window will appear and report "About to update the bridge firmware. Are you sure this is what you want to do?" Click OK. You will get a window that says, "Firmware is now updated". Unmount, unplug and power off the drive. Restart the computer with your regular extension set. Power up the drive and connect the cable.
