LaCie Unveils Big Disk Extreme+ eSATA 3Gbits and USB 2.0 for Blazing Fast Performance

January 7, 2008

LaCie today announced its new eSATA and USB 2.0 version of its popular Big Disk Extreme+. The LaCie Big Disk Extreme+ eSATA & USB 2.0 will be available in 1TB, 1.5TB, and 2TB capacities and comes with professional EMC® Retrospect® for advanced backup management and data restoration for Windows and Mac users. This versatile storage solution is equipped with blazing fast eSATA 3Gbits connectivity, and can reach impressive burst transfers rates of up to 125MB/s* thanks to built-in RAID 0 capabilities. The LaCie Big Disk Extreme+ is very easy-to-use and features the quintessential Neil Poulton d2 design—a stylish, metallic housing crafted from sturdy aluminum alloy for maximum protection and heat dissipation as well as quiet operations.

“LaCie is excited to add this product to its current line of Big Disk Extreme+ offerings,” said Olivier Mirloup, LaCie Hard Disk Business Unit Manager. “This amazingly fast product just got even faster with the addition of an eSATA 3Gbits interface. Offering also tremendous maximum capacity, the Big Disk Extreme+ is ideal for data hungry applications such as high-definition audio, SD video editing and 2D/3D imaging, or for sharing and archiving large-scale video projects within a small business setting.”

The LaCie Big Disk Extreme+ is an incredibly fast solution when connecting through eSATA. If a user also required data redundancy, two or more units can be linked with Windows, thanks to mirroring software, or with Mac OS Disk Native Utilities. By creating a professional RAID 0+1 solution, If one drive were to fail, the additional Big Disk Extreme+ would be available to provide 100 percent redundancy --enabling all data to remain safe.

The LaCie Big Disk Extreme+ offers excellent natural heat dissipation combined with an ultra-quiet, thermo-regulated “smart” fan system to offer prolonged performance and drive reliability. A 3-position switch allows for customized power management. LaCie Big Disk Extreme+ can stand vertically to save desktop space, be laid horizontally to stack multiple drives, or be rack-mounted to fit into an audio/video setup. Fully plug and play, it integrates the LaCie Setup Assistant which helps any user to set up and format the drive according to its needs.
