Rugged At The Championships
At the most recent European Swimming Championships, held at Eindhoven in the Netherlands, rush numbers were recorded during the competitions. For the display and analysis of this undertaking, the technicians opted for a score of LaCie Rugged Hard Disks (80GB each with Hi-Speed USB 2.0). They chose this LaCie hard disk because of its resistance to shocks and for the orange-colored case - the national color of Holland.
And the winner is…

Winning Trio
LaCie is rounding off its range of hard disks with the LaCie Hard Disk, Design by Neil Poulton - Triple Interface. The advantages? Four ports: one Hi-Speed USB 2.0, one eSATA 1.5Gbits, and two FireWire 400, enabling its connection to any computer, whether Mac or PC, laptop or desktop. LaCie has pre-installed backup software and a utility - LaCie Setup Assistant (see the article on it in this edition). The reflective “monolithic” case and its blue LED give the hard disk a modern look that is attractive for lovers of distinctive objects.
It will be available in April in capacities of 500GB, 750GB and 1TB.

Formatter For Windows & Mac OS
LaCie Setup Assistant (LSA) is a very practical new tool included in the new LaCie Hard Disk, Design by Neil Poulton. Its objective is to allow users who work with both Windows and Mac OS to share data between the two systems, which use specific hard disk formats that can otherwise be mutually incompatible. LSA helps the user create a “common” space for Mac and PC use as well as a large storage space in the preferred format, whether its NTFS for Windows or HFS+ for Mac OS.
Rugged 500 GB
If the question raises a smile among certain people who still ask – ‘What is the difference between a “portable” hard disk and a “desktop” hard disk?’ the answer is simple. A portable disk is automatically powered by its own "bus" (Hi-Speed USB 2.0, FireWire...) and does not require any external power supply. It is also small and compact, which makes it a valuable tool for users on the go.

Its cousin, the desktop hard disk, is characterized by, among other things, a larger capacity. Except that … this month, we’re unveiling the LaCie Rugged Hard Disk 500GB - a portable hard disk that is self-powered and still the same size as lower capacities. It is available in two versions: Hi-Speed USB 2.0 or Triple Interface – Hi-Speed USB 2.0, FireWire 400 and FireWire 800.

The initiated will recognize it straightaway; the Rugged is distinguished by its shockproof design with an external aluminum case and rubber bumper. Internally, there’s a system of “shock absorbers” surrounding the disk so it’s doubly protected, inside and out. The Rugged comes with an optional Advanced Replacement Warranty.
