Introduction

LightScribe Direct Disc Labeling is a technology that offers consumers and businesses a simple, easy way to burn professional, silkscreen-quality labels on their CDs and DVDs. Using the same laser that burns data in their LightScribe enabled optical drives, customers burn their data on the data side of the CD or DVD, flip the disc over, reinsert it into the drive and burn a precise, iridescent label.




LightScribe Direct Disc Labeling Technology Requires 3 Elements

  • LightScribe-Enabled Optical Disc Drive – Drives such as the LaCie d2 DVD±RW Drive with LightScribe enable validation of media types, print speed and intensity (Normal or High Quality) of the label on LightScribe-compatible media.

  • LightScribe-Compatible Media – A micro-thin, low-cost coating of a highly specialized material on the label side of compatible media absorbs laser light, triggering an image-producing chemical reaction. You can easily identify LightScribe-compatible media through the LightScribe logo, found on media packaging and in the inner hub of every disc.

  • LightScribe-Supported Software Applications – Licensed software applications, such as LaCie LightScribe Labeler for Mac OS X, Roxio Express Labeler for Windows, and LaCie LightScribe Labeler for Linux, tap lower-level software system services to connect the user experience to the firmware controls, delivering the user’s desired label to the imaging system.
