A drive over 2TB does not show on my Windows XP system
Summary:
A drive over 2TB does not show on my Windows XP system
Windows XP 32bit does not support drives over 2TB in size. This is an operating system limitation and not a failure of the drive itself. Windows XP only supports the MBR partition scheme and drives larger then 2TB requires GPT partitioning.
To get the drive to function properly the OS will have to be updated to a version that supports GPT partitioning. The current Microsoft offerings that support GPT are:
- Windows XP 64bit
- Vista 32bit or 64bit
- Windows 7 32bit or 64bit
- Server 2003
- Server 2008
Once the operating system is upgraded and the drive has been converted to GPT it should show up appropriately.
