Frequently Asked Questions
Are there any compatibility issues with Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard?
10.6 (Snow Leopard) is the newest version of Mac OS X. Upgrading to this new operating system can improve many things, but upgrades can sometimes cause compatibility issues. We have found a compatibility issue in software on some LaCie products.
Some products that come with LaCie Setup Assistant have a problem when installed on Snow Leopard. If you run LaCie Setup Assistant and get an error message, please follow the procedure below to optimize your drive for Mac OS 10.6.
IMPORTANT NOTE: The procedure below will erase the LaCie disk. If you have data on your disk, you do not need to follow the procedure below.
Begin by opening the Disk Utility program. This is found in Applications, then Utilities.
When the program opens, click the drive that needs to be formatted on the left side of the window. In this example, we are erasing an 18.6 GB drive. You may see one or two entries underneath the entry for the drive. Do not select those. Select the entry that shows the size of the disk (as shown in the image above)
Click the Erase tab along the top.
Change the options to be appropriate for the drive's use. Ordinarily, a Volume Format of Mac OS Extended (Journaled) is best. If there are special circumstances, choose the format appropriate for the situation.
The Name field will set the name the drive is identified by. This will appear by the icon on the desktop used to access the drive.
Click Erase when the settings are correct.
Finally, there is a warning and a summary of what is about to happen. Choose Erase to complete the process. It will take fewer than 30 seconds on most computers.
When finished, you can download the Intego Backup Assistant or Intego Backup Manager Pro to help you back up more easily in the future. You can also download your product’s user manual at www.lacie.com/support
