Media will not play on a television
Issues with multimedia drives typically come from one of two sources: A physical problem with the device, or video encoded in a way the drive does not understand. To determine how to fix the problem, try the simple test below:
Step 1: Download and unzip the appropriate test video:

Step 2: Copy the video to the multimedia drive
Step 3: Play the video on the television.
If the test video plays properly, the issue is caused by an incompatible video format. To fix this, simply re-encode the movie in a compatible format. There are many feature-rich video encoders available for free, or commercially, on the internet.
Some playback devices will only play certain types of video or music files. Notably, PS3 does not support MKV format, which is a common file container. If you are able to play the files on some devices and not others, this is likely the issue.
NOTE: LaCie does not directly support any 3rd party video encoding software.
