Use the Update Tool for OS X
Summary:
Use the Update Tool for OS X
LaCie Update Tool v2.0 adds the latest firmware support for LaCie drives with FireWire 400 and 800 and/or USB 2.0 interface. The LaCie Update Tool will not update Ethernet Disk or LaCie eSATA-only products. Update Tool requires at least Mac OS 10.3.9.
The LaCie Update Tool will confirm the most current firmware is running on attached LaCie FireWire 400 and 800 drives. If an update is available, the program will prompt to update the firmware. Some USB products do not contain changeable firmware and will not report a firmware version number.
IMPORTANT: Updating drive firmware is a critical task that should be done with attention to the included instructions. While LaCie has taken precautions to prevent data loss, be sure to have a backup copy of any important files or data before attempting to update firmware. Normally, a firmware update will not alter any data on the drive. If there are other unanticipated issues with the system, data loss is possible during the update process. DO NOT restart or shut down the Macintosh with the FireWire drive attached until the firmware has been applied. Please proceed with caution.
Download the LaCie Update Tool disk image from the http://www.lacie.com website. This is a DMG file, so double-click the icon if it does not open automatically. Double-click the LaCie Update Tool icon to start the program.
Unmount and physically disconnect all FireWire drives from the Macintosh system.
Reconnect only the LaCie FireWire drive needing an update and make sure it is turned on. Wait a few seconds, then double-click to run the LaCie Update Tool.
The LaCie Update Tool will detect the LaCie FireWire drive on the FireWire bus (Update Tool can work on OHCI FireWire 400/800 PCI cards, but a native FireWire port is recommended.)

Click Update to proceed with the firmware update process.

Type in the system password. Update Tool must have administrative access to function properly.

Wait until firmware update is completed. This can take a few minutes.

Once completed, click OK.

Finally, verify that the firmware update was successful. Please rerun the LaCie Update Tool to confirm. You will get a window prompt that says "LaCie Update Tool found a drive "[name of drive]” but it does NOT need updating."
