How to backup your data on OSX
If you haven't already downloaded and installed Intego Backup Assistant, please download the application here.
By default, Intego Backup Assistant will create an incremental backup option without any settings changes.
Note: The first instance of an incremental backup will include the entire folder.
- Begin by choosing a source location. This is the folder you want to backup. It can be any location on your computer or storage drives.
- Once you have chosen the folder you wish to backup, you must select a "Destination". This is where the files will be copied to.
- If you choose, you may set a recurring schedule for this backup to occur. At the bottom of the program window is a button that says "Schedule". By pressing this you get the scheduling options.
- Once you have all of the settings you desire for the backup set, you may click on either "Back Up" on the bottom or wait for the schedule to start (if you set one).
In addition, any LaCie direct-attached hard disk that is formatted HFS+ (Mac OS Extended) is compatible with Time Machine. In many cases, setting up Time Machine is as simple as connecting the LaCie hard disk to a computer. As soon as it’s connected, Time Machine will ask to use it as a Time Machine drive. The program will automatically use the drive, afterward.
Time Machine will only ask this the first time a disk is connected, however. To use the disk as a Time Machine drive at any time, follow the procedure below:
- Select Time Machine from the dock, or select "System Preferences..." from the Apple Menu.
- Enable Time Machine by clicking ON.
- Click "Choose Backup Disk..."
- Choose the LaCie hard disk from the list of available drives, then click "Use for Backup."
- Time Machine will automatically begin backing up the computer to the LaCie hard disk. After the first backup, Time Machine will back up files hourly.
