Until recently, the file system used by Windows computers (NTFS) was impossible to interact with from a Macintosh. While Apple has granted the ability to read from NTFS drives, it still does not allow data to be written.
There are no official or safe ways to allow a Macintosh to both read and write to NTFS.
Any modification to allow write access to NTFS volumes from Mac OS is not supported by LaCie, and may cause data loss, or require Mac OS to be reinstalled. If the risk is worthwhile, there is a 3rd party program called Paragon NTFS that allows read/write access. The program creators' website is http://www.paragon-software.com/home/ntfs-mac/
