Unable to format GPT partition in XP
Unable to format GPT partition in XP.
The GPT (Globally Unique Identifier Partition Table) is a new way for computers to manage the information on a hard drive. It works well with Windows Vista and Mac OS, but on Windows XP, it does not work at all.
Windows XP is unable to modify drives formatted using GPT through the graphical interface. To use a GPT formatted disk on XP, it must be reformatted.
The DOS program DISKPART must be used, instead of other tools. DISKPART has the ability to eliminate the GPT partition mapping with the "clean" command. Essentially, it must be treated as if the disk is corrupted.
